Tūla is centred around high quality, timeless pieces; with a focus on embracing the phases of life and celebrating pregnant and postpartum bodies. The beautiful Sanskrit word Tūla translates to balance. At Tūla balance can be found in life, in nature and in the practice of slow fashion.
We source all natural high quality fabrics from artisans all over India, with an emphasis on quality over quantity. Our pieces are mindfully created using traditional weaving and dying practices, handcrafted by traditional Karigras (crafts men and women).
At Tūla we prioritise versatile and comfortable clothing that can be worn through the seasons to encourage conscious consuming and conscious living. The designs are thoughtfully crafted to support diversity in body shape and phase of life. Each piece is created using high quality tailoring, with French seems for added strength and durability.
The aim at Tūla is not to follow trends and contribute to high turnover, fast fashion industry. The aim is for long lasting styles, for comfort and practicality that is suitable for both the slow and fast paced lifestyle. We promote the old fashioned notion of long lasting clothes, loved by many through the various stages of life.
Tūla strives towards building a brand that prioritises transparency; with a clear channel between maker, brand and buyer. Our goal is to grow and expand where necessary and maintain simple, ethical and wholesome practices. Our intention it to integrate our fundamental values in Ayurvedic and conscious living into our fashion brand.
At Tūla we plan to not only produce ethical and environmentally conscious clothing; we want to go further by initiating projects that will give back to our earth. With a background in environmental engineering, our founder intends on launching an organic cotton growing project, which embraces carbon sequestration and keeping carbon in the biosphere in the form of long lasting garments, rain fed farming, crop rotation and plant diversity (keep posted for this). In attempts to decrease the demand of the modern cotton growing industry, which is incredibly harmful and damaging to the health of our soil, our environment and our bodies.
Our team in India only employs ethical practices, and values fair wages. Our fabric suppliers focus heavily on fair-trade and the promotion and preservation of traditional and artisanal methods of slow and conscious craftsmanship.
Tūla values the ritual and art of handloom and reveres the ancient practices of artisanal Indian culture. Handloom is typically a trade that is passed down through the generations, and maintains the use of traditional wooden looms. The fabrics produced result in beautiful woven cottons and linens from the region of West Bengal.
